Before surgery preparation:
Two weeks before the procedure you will be asked to follow a strict diet called The Liver Diet, it’s 800 calories a day diet to decrease the Liver size, because the surgeon need to move it during the surgery as it close to the stomach.
Step 1 -Anesthesia
For the patient comfort the procedure will be performed under anesthesia, the surgeon will determine if he will perform the surgery under intravenous sedation, general anesthesia or local anesthesia.
Step 2 - The incision
The Abdominal incision will be made to move the liver and introduce device and laparoscopy.
Step 3 - Gastric banding placement
Using laparoscopy, the surgeon will place the adjustable banding around the upper side of the stomach just 15 mm below the gastro-esophageal junction. The band used include longitudinal balloon that will be inflated through a small tube after the surgery.
Recovery Period after adjustable gastric banding surgery.
For your recovery our surgeon will prescribe some safe pain medication, you need to move yourself during your recovery and avoiding hard exercises and lifting heavy stuff for the 3 months after the surgery. The diet we advise is a liquid diet in the first two weeks, after that you can eat semi-solid foods and after six weeks you can back to a solid diet. Bellow some advices to get better as soon as possible:
- Increase your day by day your daily walks.
- Get enough sleep and rest once you feel tired.
- Avoid to lift heavy anything until your doctor says ok.
- Even you feel full try to drink more water to stay hydrated.
- Wash the incision area daily with warm soapy water, and pat it dry.
